LeAnn Rimes’ “Can’t Fight the Moonlight”

LeAnn Rimes song “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” sends out those vivacious mood for Halloween night. And here’s something about the moon that sends out Halloween vibes. Witches flying past the moon, cats howling at the moon, werewolves turning into wolves, and people being more Luny in the moonlight (which comes from the moon term “lunar”).

LeAnn Rimes’ “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” An International Hit

“Can’t Fight The Moonlight” was a huge international hit, topping the charts in Australia, the UK, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and several other territories. In Australia, it was the best-selling single of 2001.Oddly, the song didn’t do so well in America, where it stalled at #71 in September 2001 after it was released as the first single from the Coyote Ugly soundtrack. Seeing the international success, Rimes’ label, Curb, gave it another shot, re-releasing the song with a renewed promotional push. The re-release went to #11 in March 2002, long after the film had left theaters.

A Hit From the Film Coyote Ugly

“Can’t Fight The Moonlight” is the theme song to the 2000 movie Coyote Ugly, where Piper Perabo’s character plays a singer-songwriter from New Jersey who moves to New York City to pursue her music career. She ends up getting a job at a bar called the Coyote Ugly, where she makes enough money to buy a Mac that she uses to write and record this song.

It earns her a showcase audition where she performs the song, wowing the crowd and earning a label deal. Months later, the song is a hit and LeAnn Rimes shows up to sing it at the Coyote Ugly, where Perabo joins her. Very meta. LeAnn Rimes is Perabo’s singing voice throughout the film, which includes three other original songs she performs, all of them also written by Diane Warren and produced by Trevor Horn.

Dramatic Halloween sky with full moon and bats silhouette

Creepy Moon by Rik Bertrand

It was just after dusk and the moon was high,
The clouds rolled in and darkened the sky.
Eerie thoughts were starting to transcend
And the moon and the clouds started to blend.

Oh, what a creepy, creepy night this is,
A creepy moon, with the clouds in full bloom

The night has been overtaken by an eerie silence,
I am frightened; there is a no path of least resistance.
Hypnotized by the shadowy light of the creepy moon.
Oh please release my soul from its mindless tomb.

Oh, what a creepy, creepy night this is,
A creepy moon, with the clouds in full bloom

Misty light, shaded by the clouds of doom,
The sky is possessed with magic’s midnight gloom.
The winds blow and whisper into the night,
“beware the evil that has taken flight”.

Oh, what a creepy, creepy night this is,
A creepy moon, with the clouds in full bloom.

Hidden behind the courage I have found within
I camouflage myself with the night to blend in.
I fight to survive this creepy, creepy moon
Knowing that it will be gone, oh so very soon.
