Ghostbusters 1984: Halloween Ghost Fun

The Ghostbusters 1984 film could be one of the most memorable films for the Halloween Holiday.

Help!  There is a ghost that is haunting me this Halloween!  So who are you gonna call?  He-man? No you’re going to call the Ghostbusters.  That’s right when we think of ghosts on Halloween one thing we think of is the Ghostbusters movie franchise.

Who was a kid of the 80s and remembers being excited about the two movies that came out in that period.  And of course everyone can remember the theme of Ghostbusters, and “who you ya gonna call?”

The Ghostbusters 1984; a Hilarious Cast

The Ghostbusters 1984 movie has a fantastic cast of characters – who can forget the great cast: Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Ray Stanz, Dr. Egon Spangler, Winston Zedmore, Dana Barrett, Lewis, Zuul, Slimer, and the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man?

Dr. Peter Venkman was played by the great comedic talent, Bill Murray (not to mention Murray has the funniest lines in the movie) – Dr. Ray Stanz was played by the also great comedic talent of Dan Ackroyd.  The comedic talent doesn’t stop there!  Dr. Egon Spangler was portrayed by the great Harold Ramis likewise the character of Lewis was portrayed by Rick Moranis ….  Not to mention all the other characters were portrayed greatly as well.

The movie also has fantastic direction – done by Ivan Reitman! Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd did a phenomenal job of creating the Ghostbusters series and concept. They did a great job with the plot, character development, comedic scenes, mysticism of the whole ghost/story concept, and the great scary scenes.

The Ghostbusters 1984, is the most memorable one of the series of Ghostbuster movies that have been made!  The movie has an absolutely fantastic intro with the librarian being scared by the library ghost.

And then there is the cut to scene when Peter Venkman is performing a study of telepathy where his subjects have to guess what is on the other side of the card.  In this very funny seen, Venkman keeps giving the guy a hard time, and makes sure that he cannot get any of the cards right.  While giving the beautiful blonde lady all the advantages of the game. After this the Ghostbusters go inspect the disturbance at the New York Public Library and its itself a funny and spooky scene.

Another great and memorable scene from the series is when the Ghostbusters get their first call.  They were idle and without work and everyone thought they were a sort of joke.  Then they get that first call and it’s an exciting and thrilling moment in the movie.  They enter the hotel lobby and the whole scene is rather hilarious.  The go to a top floor of the hotel and start hunting for the ghost.

There are a few great and humorous scenes when Egon first tries to use the proton pack – he accidently fires on the house maid.  Then there is the funny scene where Venkman sees the green ghost “Slimer”.  He is awkward and does not know how to approach the Ghost.  But eventually the ghost gets offensive and slims Venkman.  Ray rushes to his rescue and the scene gets a lot of laughs.

After that the gang ends up in a ballroom/dining area and they have to capture the ghost slimmer.  It’s funny watching them catch the ghost for the first time, and then afterwards they try to extort the hotel manager for lots of money.

Also another good and scary scene is when the bull like creatures in the movie hunts down the characters of Dana and Lewis.  Dana’s scene is considerably scarier, but when the bull like creature hunt Lewis down it’s a funny chase.

And finally the last really memorable scene from the movie is the final scene where they go up against the final “boss” or enemy – Gozer and the Stay Puff Marshmallow man.  The Ghostbusters end up having to climb the tall building that Gozar resides in.  They end up at the top of the building and find that Gozar is a super ghoul.  They pretty much find her to be unbeatable.  They try to shoot her down, but she easily evades them.  Then she mysteriously disappears.

Gozer then calls on them from the sky and tells them to choose their destructor (the being that will destroy them).  Ray, in his mind, accidentally chooses the Stay Puff Marshmallow man.  The Stay Puff Marshmallow man takes to the streets of New York.  He rampages in the streets like Godzilla.  The Ghostbusters realize that they have to cross the streams in order to put the marshmallow man down.  Finally the Ghostbusters save the day and everyone is rescued and New York is safe.

I cannot recommend this movie enough for Halloween – it has a great series of laughs and has a great story line. It’s a great movie for the imagination and is loads of fun for the whole family.
