Celebrating Halloween’s Magnificent About Page

Celebrate Halloween is a cumulative website that discusses the historical, cultural, and eventful aspects of Halloween. Halloween is a mixed bag holiday with some celebrations relating to the Druidic-Celtic Festival of Samhain and its pretense that on October the 31st the plain between the living and the dead is in close proximity. Then there is also the concept that derives from Samhain that people should dress up in scary costumes to frighten away bad spirits. Which is what people do on Halloween night – they dress up in costumes.

The Samhain festivals basically disturbed the early Christian Church and they tried to make it a Hallow “Holy” day celebrating the Christian Saints. Which is where we get the name Halloween from. The Church believed that we should focus on the Christian saints because they were pillars of the Church.

Then the church later came along and added November 2nd to their lineup of the All Hallowtide and called this Holiday – All Souls Day. They believed that you could pray and remember the departed souls. They also believed in purgatory and that you could get souls out of purgatory.

But nonetheless, people were still scared of spirits during these three days – so much so that they would leave food outside their houses to appease them. Later in the Middle Ages they would start leaving out cookies (call soul cakes) to appease the bad spirits. This is where we get the concept of treat from trick or treat.

There are other superstitious symbols of Halloween that were brought into the mix: witches, black cats, bats, magicians, wizards. But none of them are more prevalent than the Halloween Pumpkin. People would light candles to remember loved ones, but the Irish would also carve turnips to scare evil spirits away. Eventually when the Irish made it to America, they discovered the pumpkin and started carving them instead. And since the concept of lighting the candles for lost souls is not far off from Halloween, they put in a candle to make the pumpkin light up.

Celebrating Halloween and Charity

Another main point of this website is to help society while celebrating Halloween. Halloween does have an overtone of caution of evil spirits. Since we are focused on evil I might as well try to eradicate it with Halloween and try to scare some of the world’s evil deeds away.

This website is a proponent of one of the evilest things a person could: abuse another being. With this website we are trying to raise money to help abused children and abused animals. Abuse is still significant in much of the world and this website hopes to help irradicate it. Abused animals are sure a side site to behold, but abused children can make the world a violent or scarier place. Please be sure to visit our Halloween charities page to raise money for abused children and animals.
